Unique table set to raise thousands for Scotland South Rotary
A unique bronze sculptured table has been put forward as a very different prize organised by the Scotland South Rotary District (1320).
Renowned international artist, designer, and sculptor Mark Stoddart is offering the bespoke bronze sculpture as a grand prize to support mental health charities and neurodiverse causes. He is also generously donating two runner-up cash prizes of £5,000 and £1,000 respectively.
Proceeds from the raffle will support Scotland South Rotary’s charitable initiatives focusing on supporting mental health well-being projects and the Rare Gem Talent School in Kenya.
The donated prize features a beautifully crafted bespoke table, showcasing a bronze hippo and a sterling silver oxpecker bird, emblematic of Stoddart's unique artistic vision.
According to Mark, the table is not only a functional piece of furniture, but also a masterpiece of wildlife art, celebrating the relationship between the hippo and the bird.
Made from high-quality bronze and silver, the table represents a seamless blend of natural inspiration and modern craftsmanship, making it a unique addition to any collection.
The bronze hippo was cast at one of the world’s renowned foundries, Powderhall Bronze in Edinburgh. The silver Oxpecker bird, crafted at the renowned Edinburgh jewellers Hamilton & Inches, carries their unique hallmark, adding further value to this exclusive table, which is estimated to be worth upwards of £45,000.

Aside from a stellar career in design for which he has gained international acclaim for his distinctive sculptures that often incorporate elements of nature and wildlife, Mark is also an Ambassador for Dyslexia Scotland, Bali Dyslexia Foundation, the Dyslexia Organisation Kenya and Worldwide Rotary Club Disabilities.
He explained how he has a deep commitment to mental health causes, particularly supporting and promoting the needs of children with neurodiverse conditions.
He said: "Over the years my unique sculptures have been highly collectable items sought by clients all over the world.
“Among my pieces is a range of beautiful and functional glass-topped tables, with bronze bases, some sculpted into animal forms including hippopotamus, Tiger, elephant and Rhinoceros. Other pieces have been inspired by technology such as the Apollo Lunar Landing Module table - now in the home of former US astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
‘’Of course we are keen to raise as much money as possible for mental health causes and Rotary Foundation. But my main concern is to raise awareness of mental health issues, and the needs of neurodiverse children.”
Mark went through his early school years being passed from establishment to establishment before he was eventually assessed as being dyslexic.
“Creating this piece was a journey into the intricate balance of nature, and I'm thrilled to be able to use my artistic talent to contribute to such significant causes through this raffle.”
Affecting his confidence growing up, he acknowledges he knows what it is like to live with dyslexia and has been a long-term supporter of Dyslexia Scotland.
Mark supports the Rare Gem Talent School in Kenya which he established and funded. This school supports over 300 children with neurodiverse conditions. As part of the international beneficiaries of the raffle, the school will receive further funding making it possible for more children to be educated.
He added: "Creating this piece was a journey into the intricate balance of nature, and I'm thrilled to be able to use my artistic talent to contribute to such significant causes through this raffle.
“Having spent my life enduring the challenges that neurodiversity brings I am committed to utilising the success of my art to help raise awareness and bring about change for those experiencing similar challenges.”

“The funds raised will help our ability to support people struggling with mental health challenges and offer additional funding for the upkeep of the Neurodiverse school in Kenya. We are thrilled to be partnering with Mark to spread the word, to spark meaningful conversations and to foster a greater understanding of these vital issues and worthy causes.”
