Hagley Rotarians ship medical supplies to Ukraine
The war in Ukraine rages on, and Rotarians from Hagley near Stourbridge in the West Midlands have been sending medical supplies to the war-torn country.
The club decided last summer to work on a project of collecting and delivering medical aids to the war-torn country and they teamed up with Coventry Phoenix Rotary Club, notably Alan Taylor and Dr Tania Hebert, a Ukrainian GP working in Coventry.
Over the past two years, the Coventry club has been transporting medical items in donated old ambulances, which they then leave behind in Ukraine for use in the war zone.
To generate interest in the project, the Hagley Rotarians placed eye- catching posters in the area and put flyers into many letter boxes. They collected enough items to fill about 40 large cardboard boxes, which filled one ambulance.
Several ambulances then went in convoy from Coventry to south-west Ukraine to deliver the boxes. The club is continuing to collect medical supplies to fill further ambulances heading the eastern Europe.
Life-saving equipment provided in Northamptonshire
Hatton Rotary has been supporting the ‘Off The Streets’ initiative in Northamptonshire, making a life-saving impact in the community!
Off The Street strategically places over 1,000 bleed kits across the county, crucial in emergencies like knife injuries.
Inspired by a compelling presentation from Samsons and Scott Fitzsimmons in October 2023, Hatton Rotary decided to contribute by purchasing ten bleed kits. These kits will be strategically placed in existing defibrillator boxes across East Northamptonshire.
As a follow up, this June Hatton Rotarians will undergo training sessions on critical bleed response, conducted by Meditech Global. These sessions will be open to the public, reinforcing the club’s commitment to community well-being.
David Kendrick, District Governor for 1070 which covers the East Midlands, presented ten bleed kits to Scott from Off The Streets, and in encouraging other Rotary clubs in the district to join them in sponsoring bleed kits and participating in training sessions.
Reading Rotarians deliver meals to food banks
Reading Maiden Erlegh Rotarians were involved in a project to deliver meals to local food banks and food shares thanks to funding from the Reading Charity Art and Craft Fair.
Around 2,300 meals were prepared and frozen at Leighton Park School by the school’s catering company, Thomas Franks, under the direction of chef Alessandro Albanese.
Over the following weeks, Rotarians volunteered to deliver the microwaveable meals to organisations which are supporting disadvantaged families across Reading, Wokingham and other nearby towns in Berkshire.
They included deliveries of 200 meals to the South Reading Community Hub, Shinfield Church Food Share, and Woodley Food Share.
