HAWORTH & WORTH VALLEY ROTARY
The Rotary Club of Haworth & Worth Valley has despatched its second batch of aid, half a ton's worth in total, to Ukraine. The Bradford Telegraph & Argus reported that for the last month, the Rotarians have been publicising their donation drive to Worth Valley communities that could spare warm clothes, household goods, and other needed items.
The campaign culminated in a collection day at Haworth Masonic Hall, when roughly 24 deliveries of donations were made by individuals. FULL STORY >
CAMBRIDGE ROTARY
Cambridge Rotary Club organised a Ukrainian wine and music evening at the 17th century Anstey Hall in Trumpington. The Cambridge Independent reported that the evening “proved an entrancing experience for guests enthralled by the musical quality and moving speeches”.
Swaffham Rotarian, Rev Ray Burman, was among the speakers at a packed schedule which began with a recital by pianist Olha Kushniruk and soprano Alina Rybena before a welcome and thanks from Gill Coe, the vice-president of the Cambridge Rotary Club. FULL STORY >
SAUNDERSFOOT ROTARY
In Wales, the Western Telegraph reported that Saundersfoot Rotary Club in Pembrokeshire has been awarded £2,000 to help fund its work with disabled athletes.
The club was given the cheque by Persimmon Homes West Wales as part of its Community Champions initiative which will go towards supporting the club's work with the Tenderfoot Welsh Disabled Sports Club.
Saundersfoot Rotary Club trains and develops disabled athletes every year in a variety of sports, culminating in teams competing in the Welsh Disability Team Games. FULL STORY >
DOUGLAS ROTARY
Campaigner David Challen, who helped overturn his mother’s murder conviction, after she suffered a ‘lifetime of coercive control’, took part in a Victim’s Support Domestic Abuse Awareness Forum held on the Isle of Man.
The Manx Radio website reported that David spoke at an event supported by Douglas Rotary Club where past clients of Victim Support Isle of Man told their own stories about how the charity has helped them. FULL STORY >
KIRKCUDBRIGHT ROTARY
Having been postponed from August because of bad weather, the annual Kirkcudbright Rotary Club Duck Race was held in September.
According to Dumfries and Galloway What’s Going On, some 2,000 ducks swam upriver towards the Bridge in the Scottish town, watched by an expectant crowd of adults and children. Thousands of pounds were raised from the event which will go to a variety of causes. FULL STORY >
INVERKEITHING AND DALGETY BAY ROTARY
Staying in Scotland, the Dunfermline Press reported that half a century of community spirit was celebrated by members of the Rotary Club of Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay.
Members attended a 50th anniversary dinner in the Garvock Hotel and were joined by the Lord Lieutenant of Fife, Robert Balfour, and Provost Jim Leishman.
WICKLOW ROTARY
In Ireland, Wicklow Rotary Club received a deserved mention in the Irish Independent as part of an article marking the 20th anniversary of Wicklow Cancer Support.
The Rotary club organises a tree of remembrance each Christmas, and this was reflected on as part of the vital role which Wicklow Cancer Support plays in the Wicklow town community – and which was celebrated with an event at Wicklow Golf Club. FULL STORY >
BARRHEAD ROTARY
Barrhead Rotary Club in Renfrewshire, Scotland, is launching a new community initiative this week to help keep the streets free of litter. The Barrhead News reported that the club held in September the first of what it hopes will be a series of community litter picks organised in the town.
"Rotary is about service, and this initiative is about serving the local community, building local links and getting people involved to improve the area," said Angela Samson, secretary and former president of Barrhead Rotary. FULL STORY >
