SOUTH coast Rotary clubs
give africa support
SOUTH coast Rotary clubs have been supporting the charity African Adventures which is partnered with 29 schools in developing areas of Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar.
Lymington Rotary Club generously supported African Adventures with funding towards a new three-classroom block at Jubilee Academy School in Kenya.
The construction is currently under way, with local fundi (builders) leading the work and travelling volunteer groups supporting the build. This classroom block will make a huge impact for the school, as it will help secure registration status from the Ministry of Education, ensuring that the school can continue to operate and provide opportunity for its students.
Bournemouth North Rotary has supported the charity’s water sanitation and hygiene programme (WASH) in Ghana, notably installing a new toilet block at Dornorgbor School.
The Rotary club provided a generous donation in 2023, which has helped deliver the WASH programme and a further donation has just been made towards the construction of a permanent classroom. Many partner schools are still managing with temporary structures which are affected by noise and weather and are not conducive to learning, so this permanent classroom will make a big difference.
Southampton Magna Rotary Club has been supporting African Adventures for the past two years and is working with the charity to secure global grant funding towards the Ghana WASH programme, which will make an important long-lasting impact.
“This classroom block will make a huge impact for the school, as it will help secure registration status from the Ministry of Education, ensuring that the school can continue to operate and provide opportunity for its students.”
The charity has also received extremely generous donations from Fareham Meon Rotary, New Forest Rotary, Basingstoke Rotary, Bishops Waltham Rotary, Hamble Valley Rotary, Winchester Rotary, Andover Rotary, Hailsham Rotary and Bristol Breakfast Rotary, towards vital funding projects.
Rachel Northover, fundraising manager for African Adventures, said: “In addition, Rotary support towards our Christmas Campaign this past year was phenomenal, with approximately 40 clubs supporting our work to provide special festive meals for the children at our partner schools.
“We would love to name all the clubs but there are too many! We were so grateful for this support, and it made an incredible impact, as the images of the children enjoying their meals show.”
